I Wish…

The holidays are approaching.  Streets lamps are decorated with garland and wreaths, store windows are filled with sparkly, snow-capped displays, and Santa is arriving at malls to visit with anxious children.  Like all kids, Rydan loves Christmas.  His wish list will be long and filled with everything from WWE action figures to games and DVD’s.  Keeping track of each one of his Christmas wishes can be quite a challenge for Ryan and I.

So, last year we figured out a very efficient way of organizing his list for Santa.  We created a Wish Book.  Rydan paged through store flyers and catalogs, and I helped him cut out pictures of the things he wanted for Christmas.  We made a colorful cover for the book out of  holiday scrap paper and stickers, and then used white construction paper for the inside pages.  Rydan glued his items onto the pages and even designated special pages for for DVD’s, games, action figures, etc.

For Rydan, it was a fun project and an exciting way of showing Santa what he wanted (he actually did show it to Santa at the mall).  For Ryan and I, it was a visual Christmas manual that we could share with family and friends when they asked for ideas on what to get Rydan.  Being able to actually see pictures of the things he wanted was extremely helpful.

This past weekend, Rydan and I put together his 2009 Wish Book.  Though the pages are currently blank, he stands ready with his scissors when that first Christmas catalog comes in the mail.  By the time Thanksgiving is here, he’ll have it near completed so that the Wish Book can be passed around and viewed for ideas as we visit friends and family. Check back soon for updates on Rydan’s Christmas wishes.

46 more days until Christmas!

I love reading about your experience and I’m so proud of you for doing this! I guess your writing is a part of your life that I never got to experience before and it’s great to see the talent that was hidden there all the time! Keep doing it! Miss you

This is such a fantastic idea! So creative and cute, I can just picture Rydan ready with the scissors! Thanks for sharing this one, maybe next year I’ll put a book together to help Will out. 🙂
