Marshmallow Mondays

Read A Book, Give A Book

Marshmallow Mondays has found an exciting new way to read, while supporting global literacy and charitable giving.

We Give Books is a new digital initiative that enables anyone with access to the Internet to put books in the hands of children who don’t have them, simply by reading online. We Give Books combines the joy of reading with the power of helping others, providing a platform for caregivers and educators to inspire children to become lifelong readers and lifelong givers.

Here’s how it works:  Simply choose the charity you want to read for and then select the books you want to read. For each book you read online, We Give Books donates a book to a leading literacy group on your behalf.

There are so many reasons why I love this program:

  1. It encourages conversations with your child about the importance of being a giving person.
  2. It’s an innovative way to discover new books and read together with your child.
  3. Since every campaign has its own donation goal, your child will learn the rewarding aspect of reaching a goal. Once a campaign you’ve supported reaches its goal, you and your child will receive a personalized letter of thanks for your effort.
  4. It’s FREE!  Read as many books as you like, as often as you like.

Rydan and I have chosen Books Across America as our campaign, whose goal is to donate 5,000 new books to school libraries in need across the United States.  So far, we’ve donated 4 books by reading You Can’t Go To School Naked, Ladybug Girl At The Beach, I Knew You Could! and Henry And The Bully.

Please consider signing up and choosing your own campaign to support, or become a member of the Marshmallow Mondays reading group.  Simply sign up, then choose Reading Groups ,where you can search for Marshmallow Mondays and join our group.  We’ve set a goal of reading 300 books by the end of the year, and we need your help in reaching that goal!
