A fierce ninja, a retro duo and a tiny giraffe with pink feet.  This is what we looked like for our Halloween adventures this past weekend.

On Friday, the boys ventured into the neighborhood to trick-or-treat while the girls stayed at home to hand out candy.  Lily and I watched Rydan and Daddy from the window as they walked down the street.  Ryan was like a human flashlight for Rydan with that bright green suit.  When they arrived back home, Rydan’s Halloween bucket was overflowing with candy.  As he dug through a pile of mini chocolate bars, M&M’s, skittles, starbursts and various other sweet treats, his first choice was an eyeball gumball.

The next day, Lily and I dressed up too and the four of us got in the car to trick-or-treat at Gram and Pap Shaffer’s in Klingerstown.  Just as we pulled out of the driveway, I looked at Ryan and said “So, who’s pumping gas?”  As we pulled into the gas station, Ryan got out of the car like a rockstar and stood at the pump.  I couldn’t help but giggle from inside just watching everyone do double takes as they walked by him and his bright green suit.

When we finally arrived at Gram and Pap Shaffer’s house, we were greeted by lots of family members who had come to see Rydan and Lily’s costumes.  Little did they know that Ryan and I would be dressed up too.  We all had a great time visiting, laughing and showing off our costumes.

After that, we hopped back in the car and headed to Hegins to trick-or-treat at Pap Chris’ house.  He and Grandma Wiest had prepared quite a dinner spread for us.  Rydan was especially hungry, so he wasted no time chowing down.  Grandma had prepared some of his favorites, including deviled eggs and cherry pie.  Lucky for Rydan, they sent us home with all of the leftovers AND even more candy.  Those two never fail to take care of our bellies and Rydan’s sweet tooth!

At the end of the night, we had one exhausted ninja and one sleepy little giraffe.

Hey, Bridgit and Ryan,

What a continuing joy to read and follow your family’s exploits, especially this latest account of your Halloween visits. How much it reminds me of my own early parenthood trips with kids up in Ipswich, MA. Only then, we had snow on the ground when we went “trick-or-treating”!

Thnak you, again, for these wonderful trips down memory lane.
