Marshmallow Mondays

A Parade, Camp & Airplanes

We hope all of our readers had an enjoyable 4th of July!

Ours began last Wednesday evening with a front row seat of a fantastic fireworks display.  The celebration then continued on Thursday morning with our neighborhood parade.  Kids were invited to decorate their “vehicle” of choice and were led around the neighborhood by a local firetruck.   Even though it rained on us, the kids wore big smiles and proudly paraded around the neighborhood.

WS-Camps-Logo21You are probably wondering why Rydan isn’t pictured in any of the parade photos.  It’s because he attended WinShape Camp all last week.  WinShape Camp was started in 1985 by S. Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-Fil-A, in hope of creating a camp experience that would offer kids fun, adventure, lasting friendships and a closer relationship with God.  The theme of this year’s camp was “heart,” centered around Proverbs 4:23 – “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Every day Rydan came home with so much to say about his experience at camp.  He chose soccer, secret ops and archery as his three activities for the week.  He always had a lot to say about secret ops, in which the campers acted as God’s secret helpers throughout the week.  I was so proud of how much he learned, and how much he took away from the daily Bible lessons.  The whole experience was such a good fit for him.  It was a week of nonstop F-U-N, high energy, and lots of smiling faces, which is right up his alley.  It makes my heart so happy to see him in his element.  Rydan simply loves life, and watching him have the time of his life every day reminds me how blessed I am to have him as my son.

On Friday, family members were invited to enjoy a free Chick-Fil-A lunch with all campers.  Prior to lunch was the camp’s closing program.  From the moment it began, you could feel such a strong sense of energy radiating throughout the room.  I was really impressed watching all of the camp counselors, all high school age kids.  Their energy was through the roof, and clearly contagious, as all of the campers were out of their seats dancing, clapping and singing.  Lexington parents, this camp is phenomenal.  Rydan can’t wait to return next year.  Thank you, Winshape, for showing Rydan such an awesome time for the past week!

On Saturday, we visited The Aviation Museum of Kentucky, which has 20,000 square feet of display area that includes older restored aircraft and memorabilia, as well as air-worthy, flyable aircraft for the public to enjoy.  Rydan and Lily loved seeing all of the aircraft, and even got a chance to sit inside a few planes.
