Donate Life Night

On Saturday night, we attended “Donate Life Night” at the Lexington Legends.  This was an opportunity to be a part of a very special group of people who know first-hand how important it is to be an organ and tissue donor.  Proudly wearing blue and green Donate Life t-shirts, everyone was there to celebrate those who have received or are in need of an organ transplant.

Looking around, I couldn’t help but wonder about each person’s story.  You would never know that this group was anything but healthy.  I know all too well, though, how much our appearances can hide, and how much sickness and pain can live inside another person without anyone else realizing it.  Even though I didn’t know how each of these individuals were affected by organ transplantation, it felt really good to be surrounded by a group who understands what it’s like to either need a life-saving organ, or have a loved one in need.  One thing was certain, there were a lot of smiles and a lot of reasons to celebrate life.

Before the game started, all of the Donate Life kids received a green or blue balloon, and walked as a group onto the field for a balloon release in honor of anyone who is in need of or has received an organ transplant.
