Marshmallow Mondays

3rd Grade, Turning 2, a Test, & Apples

Third grade seems to suit Rydan pretty well.  He was extremely anxious to return to school, so stepping back onto the morning bus was no big deal.  He came home that afternoon, and the first thing he said after stepping off of the bus was “No homework!” When asked to tell me three things about his day, he chose to mention what he ate for lunch, the fact that he enjoyed recess, and that he had two specials throughout the day – music and library.

Rydan’s assignment for the first day of school was to place five things in a brown bag that would tell his teacher and his classmates a little bit about his interests and personality.  Rydan chose: 1.) a Lego figurine 2.) a Pokemon card 3.) a Halloween mask 4.) a Phillies ball 5.) two halves of wood that he’d broken at Taekwondo.  Very fitting!  And with that, he was off to third grade.

The day after the first day of school, we had something else to celebrate – Lily’s second birthday.  Unfortunately, she had her two-year check-up at the pediatrician that morning, so that wasn’t exactly a fun way to celebrate.  But afterwards I helped her forget all about it with a Mommy Daughter lunch date to Chick-Filet.  After her nap, we spent the afternoon baking some fall-inspired pumpkin treats (recipes to come on a future blog post).  And finally, after Daddy got home and we had all eaten dinner, Lily opened up her gifts.  She took her good old time, wanting to take a closer look at each item after removing the paper, and gasped at each Elmo gift.  Presents included some new board books, Mrs. Potato Head, Elmo pajamas, new puzzles, an Elmo cell phone, refrigerator magnet letters, a vtech digital camera, two Phillies outfits, and a Melissa & Doug cookie baking set, just to name a few.

“All for me?”

Trying out her new camera. “Say Cheese!”

Baking some birthday cookies.

Opening all those gifts was exhausting. Time for an Elmo snack!

On Saturday, Rydan had a belt test at Taekwondo America.  We are still waiting for the official results, which will happen tomorrow evening.  Look for photos on our Facebook Page in the next day or two to see if Rydan is awarded his “Orange Belt Senior.”  In the meantime, here are a few photos from his test.

Getting ready to spar.

We ended our weekend with a visit to Boyd Orchards yesterday afternoon to go apple picking.  We all had a great time trying to find the perfect apples to take home, and afterwards Rydan and Lily enjoyed some extra fun on the playground.

Looks like you had a great weekend! I love those kids so much and miss them and you terribly! Your week/weekend looked like a busy one, but it looked like it was fun for the whole family! So nice to see!
